Charles Hatfield

( 1740 )

So of John Hatfield of Tichfield in the County of Southampton, apprenticed to Joseph Barnbutt 4 May 1711 on payment of £20. Turned over 11 May 1715 to David Williams (Willaume). Free, 13 April 1727. Two marks (sterling and New Standard) entered as largeworker, 21 June 1727. Address: 'at the Golden Ball St.Martin's Lane'. Third mark, 10 August 1739. Address: St.Martin's Lane. Goldsmith. Presumably dead by 14 April 1740, on the entry of Susannah Hatfield's mark. Hatfield was one of the Subordinate Goldsmith's to the King (1723-39). Although comparatively rare, his work is of a high standard and shows Huguenot influence, as is natural from his apprenticeship.
