Possibly Scottish, circa 1690

The body made of a Tortoise shell and silver mounted with a foliate rim. The foot gadrooned and the cover reveals a plain silver surface with a coat of arms that can function as a small salver.
Similar objects of curiosity were collected by the art connoisseur William Beckford and his designer Gregorio Franchi who also produced similar items to implement their collection.
