A German nef circa 1890 imported into London 1930.
Of moderate size, modelled as a fully rigged ship, with detachable deck, model sailors at work, seven billowing sails, and canons raised on four openwork wheels with ornate fish detailing.
These sixteenth century objects were originally table salts but by the nineteenth century had become decorative novelties to lavishly adorn the dining table.
