A Victorian gothic revival 18k gold cross, set with a cabochon amethyst. 
Hallmarks for London, date 1879, makers mark of Berkeley William Fase

The design is after John Brogden, whose particular style of archaeological gold-work was influenced by Byzantine art. See a similar example see pg. 65 plate 9 in Vivienne Becker's 'Antique and 20th century jewellery'.
