Son of George Gurney of Turrington in the County of Bedford butcher, apprenticed to Rochard Bayley 2 May 1717 on payment of £10. Free, 3 September 1724. Mark entered as largeworker, in partnership with Thomas Cooke II, 19 October 1727. Address: Golden Cup, Foster Lane. Second mark, as 'Richard Gurney and Co.', 23 December 1734, same address. Cook, goldsmiths, same address, 1721-73. His younger brother John was apprenticed to him 9 October 1730, when the father was dead. The freedom of the latter is unrecorded.
