Robert-Joseph Auguste
( 1725 )
One of the most illustrious Parisian goldsmiths of the 18th century, entered his mark on 15 January 1757. In 1773 he became 'orfevre du Roi' and four years later bought the business of Jacques Rottiers; he moved into the latter's premises in the "Galeries du Louvres" in 1785 on the occasion of Roettier's death. Whilst Auguste naturally worked for the French Court, he also received extensive commissions from the Courts of England, Portugal, Sweden, and Russia.
