Each candelabrum in the form of a classical female torch carrier, the sockets formed as flower heads with leafy drip pans, with central pineapple finial, the figures raised on spreading circular neo-classical engraved bases.
There is no surviving record of apprenticeship or freedom for Edward Capper. His first hallmark is entered as a smallworker on the 8th November 1792. His address is recorded as 23 Stonecutter Street and he moved to 3 Georges Court, Clerkenwell on the 14th September 1803 and to 12 Red Cross Square, Jewin Street, 1st February 1809. His second hallmark is entered at the Hall on 27th August 1813.
Edward Capper, plateworker at Round Court, St. Martin's Le Grand, appears in the Parliamentary Report list of 1773, and Heal records Edward Capper, silversmith at the same address, 1761-1777 and at 23 Shoe Lane, 1795. It is difficult to determine whether the earlier address is that of the father of the above or the same man working for over fifty years. The former seems more likely.
