SILVERSMITH BIOGRAPHY

Son of John Hugh Le Sage Citizen and Goldsmith, apprenticed to his father 6 May 1742 and turned over the same day to Peter Meure Citizen and Butcher in consideration of £20. Free, 5 June 1755. Two marks entered as largeworker, 5 April 1754. Address: Great Suffolk Street, Charing Cross. Heal records him as plateworker, Golden Cup, corner of Great Suffolk Street, near Haymarket, from 1739 (in which there would seem an overlap with his father) till he left off business in 1761. Subordinate Goldsmith to the King c.1754-9. Listed by Evans as Huguenot. Among pieces made by him through the royal appointment are the imposing candelabra with royal arms at Ickworth, Suffolk.
