John Preist

Son of John Priest Citizen and Barber Surgeon of London, apprenticed to William Gould 6 February 1739 on payment of £18. Free 7 June 1749. Mark entered as largeworker, 24 June 1748. Address: Salisbury Court, Fleet Street. Moved to Prugions (sic) Court, Old Bailey, 29 February1760. Heal records him as plateworker, Salisbury Court, 1748-51, but not the latter address. His connection with James and Williams Preist is not apparent. Like his master William Gould he was a specialist candlestick maker and it is doubtful if his mark will be found on any other category of plate.
