Thomas Ash

Thomas Ash, son of Joseph Ash of Dorset, was apprenticed to his brother Joseph for eight years. Though his freedom is undocumented, he was certainly free before 9th May 1684 on which date he was apprenticed to Daniel Goddard. For the 1692 Poll Tax, he was recorded as Thomas As, silversmith, in St Mary Staining Precinct. He entered two largeworker’s marks in 1697 with an address in Staining Lane, one of which, ‘Ash’ in an oval punch – similar to the mark used by his brother Joseph in the 1670s.
