A Louis XV Gold & Enamel Box

Length of box: 7 cm; 2 ¾ in.

The box of elongated oval form, the lid enamelled en plein with putti frolicking with doves on clouds. The scene framed by a bold Greek key border alternating with four roundels of flowerheads within polished gold bands. The sides painted with similar subjects of putti holding garlands of flowers or trophies of love in oval cartouches, divided by ovals of roses in shaded pink and green enamel over chocolate-brown ground. The base similarly decorated.

The box bearing the touch marks of maker's mark, charge and discharge marks of Eloy Brichard, together with Paris date letter ‘X’ for 1761.
